Art & Culture CoroArt 2017

The first 2017 COROART contest in the USA took place in October 2017, as approximately 40 students from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina competed for prizes. With the assistance of Shaun Cassidy, Professor of Fine Arts at Winthrop University, and Debra Heinz, Executive Director of the Arts Council of York County, the students began preparing art work on October 20, 2017 after a variety of tapes were delivered by Coroplast Tape Corporation to Winthrop University.

Coroplast recognizes the value art brings to society, the community and individuals alike.  Although there was no specific thematic content or subject direction given, the concept of COROART is focused on experimenting with modern and technical materials. Coroplast invited the students to “play” and experiment with the tape material, trying to comment and reinvent it in an innovative way. Coroplast awarded three top prizes monetarily.

A professional artist exhibit of tape art also occurred at the Center for the Arts Dalton Gallery, 121 E. Main Street, Rock Hill, and the week of November 13, 2017 with purchase options of the works of art included.
The final exhibit of all the student art works was on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at Coroplast Tape Corporation.  An awards ceremony and awards was held at the Arts Council of York County’s location, in which the winning and purchased student art will be exhibited along with the professional works of art.
